With more and more people being educated, the economy of two countries increases dramatically. One of the reasons is that educated farmers who can read the agriculture instructions get more skills to farm well, which results in a growth in agricultural productivity (Brown, 2008). These educated farmers know how to water, apply fertilizer more efficiently, and finally they harvest more crops which results in a higher income. How one symbol can be used for two different ideas is revealed when one compares a short story such as William Faulknerââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"A Rose for Emilyâ⬠in which a door represents the danger of a closed mind to another short story such as ââ¬Å"Where are You Going, Where Have You Been?â⬠by Joyce Carol Oates in which a door reveals the illusion of security. William Faulknerââ¬â¢s short story ââ¬Å"A Rose for Emilyâ⬠features the story of Miss Emily, widely considered the town oddity because she is unbending in her ways and adamant about keeping everything exactly the same. This represents a kind of madness in keeping with the treatment she had received from her father, who insisted she always remain his little girl and always remembered her high birth status. The world of the present is strange and unrecognizable to Miss Emily, so she struggles continuously to keep it in the realm of the safe and ââ¬Ënormalââ¬â¢ she knows ââ¬â her mind is closed to new possibilities. Miss Emily Grierson is introduced as a woman who has never been provided an opportunity to become comfortable or familiar with the world outside of her fatherââ¬â¢s old world ideals. ââ¬Å"None of the young men were quite good enough to Miss Emily and such. Polygyny Should not Be Legal - Essay Example The definition of a marriage is the union of a man and a woman but not multiple partners. This therefore implies that inclusion of several partners redefines the meaning of marriage, as people have known it throughout human history. Although certain individuals may have the financial capacity to take care of their multiple partners, this act is simply immoral. For instance, in the case of polygyny, the woman is undermined. This implies that women are given low status in the society because they are owned in a similar way as properties. This is morally wrong and can only be avoided if polygyny is illegal. In the case of polyandry, it would be very difficult for a single woman to play the roles of a wife to several husbands (DÃ ez MInguela, 2011). In addition, there would be too many children and chores to take care of for the woman. This is not to mention the possibility of conflict eruption in the family if the husbands do not agree on certain aspects. Polyandry continues to oppress against women. This is because in most instances, especially in the developing world, women are usually forced to get married since their parents view them as a waste of money if allowed to attend school. The issue gets worse when they are forced to get married to elderly men at tender ages (Tertilt, 2003). From this perspective, women are deprived of the right to choose what they wish to do. This adds to oppression against the female population and can be avoided if polyandry is illegal. If it were prohibited, women would have the chance to attend school and participate in developing their countries. Additionally, this practice goes against the teachings of the Holy Scriptures. This is because besides requiring a man to be committed to one wife, the Holy Scriptures also requires both to be faithful to each other.
